How do we reach them?
I understand, somewhat, the dilemma of this Christian school. Our society and even our churches wink at the idea of chastity as a relic of a bygone era, an old-fashioned practice just not realistic for today. Everybody has sex before marriage, and most couples shack up before tying the knot. Right? But what if you truly believe the Bible teaches abstinence before marriage? Well, we as followers of Jesus Christ find our guidance for daily living not from popular culture, not from what everybody else is doing, but from the Word of God. And this young lady made a written commitment, to her school, to practice sexual purity. So she messed up. So it follows there should be consequences. And it seems she has been forthright and repentant about it. Publicly.
Now what is the responsibility of the Christian community- her school, her church? Like I've said, I understand the dilemma of the school. But just as much, I understand the heartbreak of this young lady. And folks, I know, the right thing to do is not a mystery. Jesus has already addressed this issue.
"And Jesus said, Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more." - John 8:11
You forgive. You restore. You love. It is simple. Well, it is until other things cloud your judgment, like self-righteousness and selective memory and pride and Satan.
Just love her. You can't go wrong with that.
